Simulated Flares / Fusees Module & Fiber Optics
Here is a great kit to bring an Emergency scene or remote RR Xing to life! The kit Simulates a set of Red Highway Flares or Railroad Fusees with either continuous or timed operation. The circuit come prebuilt and the two flares / fusees are simply installed with Fiber Optics. The Fiber Optic Cable and be easily positioned or moved to different locations. All that is required is to drill a small hole to poke the fiber thru. The circuit board comes fully assembled and tested with the two LEDs already mounted on the circuit board. All that is required is to cut and attach the fiber optic cable to the LEDs with the supplied adapters and drill a .060-.080" dia hole thru the layout to position the fiber. The circuit board is designed to mount under the layout or scene, but could also be mount in other locations as needed.
Operation:
When unit is powered up with 6-14 volts DC the 1st LED will flicker and pulse slightly like a burning highway flare or railroad fusee. After a few seconds the 2nd LED will all beging burning like a flare. This will continue until power is shut off. If an optional switch is hooked up to the supplied wires, the unit will be off when power is applied. When the switch is turned on, the 1st LED will begin to flicker and then a few seconds later the 2nd LED will also begin to flicker. This will continue until the switch is turned off. Once the switch is turned off, the unit will continue to operate for a while and then one LED will go off. The 2nd LED will continue for a while longer and then slowly fade out until it is completely off. This sequence will simulate a person lighting one flare and then lighting a second flare after a few seconds! It will also simulate the 1st flare burning out before the 2nd flare slowly fades and goes out.
An optional Photo Detector Transistor can be added in place of the switch to start the sequence and "light" the fusees when a train approaches the crossing or when darkness falls over the layout or scene.
